Taylor Swift Endorses Kamala Harris
On Tuesday, September 10th, 2024, Kamala Harris and Donald Trump had all eyes on them as they debated each other, for the first time, ahead of the US Presidential Election. All eyes, including Taylor Swift’s.
That same Tuesday night, Taylor Swift took to Instagram to publicly announce her endorsement and support of Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris.
“Like many of you, I watched the debate tonight. If you haven’t already, now is a great time to do your research on the issues at hand and the stances these candidates take on the topics that matter to you the most,” Swift said in her caption.
Swift, often the subject of public scrutiny simply for being a woman, emphasizes the importance of forming your own opinion. Swift wants her fans and followers to educate themselves, rather than just blindly follow her.
Swift proves again, to represent everything a woman is: powerful, intelligent, opinionated, and influential.
Swift continues, “As a voter, I make sure to watch and read everything I can about their proposed policies and plans for this country.” She prefaced her opinion with facts: she’s done her research and she knows what she has to say. No one can pick that apart.
“Recently I was made aware that AI of ‘me’ falsely endorsing Donald Trump’s presidential run was posted to his site. It really conjured up my fears around AI, and the dangers of spreading misinformation,” Swift said. She blatantly shines the spotlight on presidential candidate Donald Trump and one of his many, many, embarrassing “strategies” he’s tried to pull off amidst the election coming up. “It brought me to the conclusion that I need to be very transparent about my actual plans for this election as a voter. The simplest way to combat misinformation is with the truth,” she continued.
Swift then publicly claimed her support for Harris: “I will be casting my vote for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz in the 2024 Presidential Election. I’m voting for @kamalaharris because she fights for the rights and causes I believe need a warrior to champion them.” Swift takes a personal approach to her announcement of support: it’s about what she believes, and it’s up to us to decide if we believe the same. She values the voices of Americans, and again, wants to encourage us to do our own research.
“I think she is a steady-handed, gifted leader and I believe we can accomplish so much more in this country if we are led by calm and not chaos,” Swift said. “I was so heartened and impressed by her selection of running mate @timwalz, who has been standing up for LGBTQ+ rights, IVF, and a woman’s right to her own body for decades.” Swift insinuates the obvious: a short-tempered, selfish, racist, homophobic, transphobic, lying, privileged, chaotic white man should not, cannot, run this country.
Swift proved to be a champion for LGBTQ+ and women’s rights back in 2018 when she first voiced her political opinion, “breaking her silence.” The power of her voice goes beyond the stage.
“I’ve done my research, and I’ve made my choice. Your research is all yours to do, and the choice is yours to make,” Swift said, then closing her caption with emphasis on the importance of voting and getting registered.
She ends her caption with this short, but powerful signature…
With love and hope,
Taylor Swift
Childless Cat Lady
Trump’s running mate, JD Vance, felt it necessary to deem Democratic women who do not have children as “childless cat ladies” who are “miserable at their own lives and the choices that they've made and so they want to make the rest of the country miserable, too.”
Swift, a self-proclaimed and self-decided childless cat lady, is proud of that identity. The photo Swift used to announce her support of Harris was of her and one of her three cats, Benjamin Button.
Swift’s support of Harris, the first female Vice President and possibly the first female President, is historical. Harris acknowledges the support of Swift as something to be proud of: Harris-Walz friendship bracelets are available for purchase on her website, a Swift staple.
Swift proves to be a powerful, voiceful woman with opinions that matter – she knows it and we know it. Unfortunately, Donald Trump, one of the smallest men who will ever live, will never know it.
Trump took to social media to say, “I HATE TAYLOR SWIFT!” as if she or anyone cares. Many of us know, all too well, there’s no getting through a small man’s stubborn, hard head.
Swift knows we’re all championing for change, sick of running as fast as we can. And maybe, Swift was what we needed to get to the finish line.
